How to Prep for a Spray Tan

Your Complete Guide to Glowing Results

Spray tanning is the fastest way to achieve a sun-kissed glow — without the damage. But to get the most flawless, even results, prep is key.

Here’s everything you need to do before your appointment to ensure your tan looks smooth, natural, and long-lasting.

1. Exfoliate the Day Before

Spray tan solution clings to dry, dead skin. Use a loofah or oil-free body scrub 24 hours before your appointment to slough off buildup and create a smooth canvas.

2. Shave or Wax in Advance

Hair removal should happen at least 24 hours prior. This allows pores to close and prevents irritation or dotting.

3. Avoid Lotions, Oils, and Perfumes

Your skin should be clean and bare. On the day of your tan, skip deodorant, makeup, body oils, and moisturizer, which can create a barrier between your skin and the solution.

4. Choose Loose, Dark Clothing

Wear something comfy and dark to avoid staining. Skip bras or tight waistbands that can disrupt the developing tan.

5. Book at the Right Time

Don’t plan your spray tan right before a workout, massage, or facial. You’ll need time for your glow to develop undisturbed.
